Virtual Ramble 2 - Wootton to Burley

START: Wootton

1 Turn right out of the car park onto the tarmac road. Take the track on the left side of the road just after the house.(Start: car park SZ 24710 98900)

2 At the end of the track, go through the gate and follow the forest track (cycle track) downhill. (Gate: SZ 24190 99365)

3 When you reach a cross roads, follow the track straight on over the bridge and uphill. (Bridge: SZ 23865 99725)

4 Follow the main track round to the left, ignoring other tracks off to the right.

5 As the track bends round to the right, take the track to the right leading to a gate out of the enclosure. (Gate: SZ 23060 99845)

7 At the main road, turn left and almost immediately right to follow a tarmac road between houses.

8 Just past the last house on the left, enter the enclosure through (or over) a gate. Follow the path downhill. (Leave road: SZ 22735 99925)

9 Continue following the path until it reaches another path. Turn left to a gate.

10 Go through (or over) the gate and turn right uphill along a small stream. Cross a little bridge and head up the hill along the edge of the enclosure.

11 When you reach the corner of the enclosure, follow the fence round to the right in a westerly direction and continue straight ahead through the bracken, passing a gate into the enclosure on your right (Corner of inclosure: SZ 22175 99540)

12 Follow the track down to a stream, cross the bridge and go up the hill, still following the edge of the enclosure.

13 On reaching the corner of the enclosure, keep following the main track which bends slightly round to the left. (Corner of inclosure: SU 21425 00070)

14 Go round the right hand side of the mound and take the path off to the right.

15 When you reach the point where several paths meet, carry straight on through the gorse bushes.

16 When you see a pond ahead, carry along the path heading downhill. Do not take paths that go uphill on the right.

17 With the second smaller pond now in view, join the main track that comes downhill. Turn left heading to the right of the larger pond. (Join path: SU 20595 01060)

18 Continue following the pond round to the left. At the Forestry Commission sign (Whitten Pond), take the path going north – not the path to the road. (Pond: SU 20330 01245)

20 On reaching the old railway line turn left. Follow the path and turn right to reach the car park. (Car park: SU 20205 01765)
