START: Linwood (Appleslade Car Park) 1 Turn right out of the car park and follow the tarmac road. When you reach the Red Shoot Pub, turn left down Tom's Lane (Start: SU 18464 09334) 2 When the road bends to the right follow the footpath across the stile into a field. Cross another stile into a second field. At the end of the field, cross the footbridge to the common (Footbridge: SU 18164 09934) 3 Follow the track straight ahead through the boggy area. 4 Head up the hill, keeping to the right following the path through the heather. There are lots of paths - just find the best one through the heather. 5 At the top of the hill, head for grid reference SU 17929 10538 to get to a place where major tracks meet. 6 Follow the track going almost north towards the gorse bushes. 7 When the path forks, go right. Continue along this path and then head down hill towards the telegraph poles. 8 When you reach a telegraph pole, turn left to follow the wires to a major path. Then turn right and follow the sandy track around one hill and then over the next. 9 At the junction, take the path going straight on. 10 When you reach the gravel road/track, head across the heathland towards a small group of conifers on a small hill. Follow the path keeping to the left of the trees. 11 Head north down hill towards the stream and the obvious path on the far side of the valley. 12 Ford the stream and go up hill following the gravel path. (If the stream is too deep to cross, walk down to Ogdens where there is a bridge) (Cross stream: SU 18654 12579) 13 When you reach the cycle track, continue north keeping the trig point to your right (about 100 metres away). 14 Carry on down hill through the gorse, heading towards the corner of the tree line. 15 Heading NNW, walk along the side of a stream, crossing several smaller streams. Head towards the silver birch tree. 16 When you reach the track that crosses the stream, ford the stream and follow the obvious path up hill to the car park at Godshill (Cross stream: SU 18749 14729) END: Car Park (SU 18164 15044) (click here for text-only version of this page) Raising money for research into Breast Cancer and Crohn's Disease.
